Privacy Policy

How PaintLens handles photos, edits, purchases, and your privacy.

PaintLens (“the app”) is provided by making-stuff.com (“we”, “us”). This policy explains what information the app uses and how we handle it.

Short version

  • Your photos and edits stay on your device.
  • PaintLens does not create user accounts.
  • Location (GPS) metadata is stripped from exports by default.
  • If you buy premium, Google Play processes payment. We only receive what we need to confirm your purchase entitlement.
  • We do not sell your personal information.

Information the app processes on your device

PaintLens is designed to work on-device. When you use the app, the following may be processed locally on your phone or tablet:

  • Photos you import or choose from samples bundled with the app
  • Edit settings (for example values, palette, crop, and comparison choices)
  • Exported images you save or share
  • App preferences stored on the device

We do not operate a PaintLens photo cloud. We do not upload your reference photos or artwork to our servers for editing.

Information we do not collect by default

PaintLens does not require you to sign in. We do not create PaintLens user accounts, and we do not ask for your name or email to use the core editing features.

We do not use third-party advertising SDKs in the app for interest-based ads.

Purchases and premium entitlement

PaintLens may offer premium features through Google Play (for example a subscription or lifetime unlock).

  • Payment is handled by Google Play, under Google’s terms and privacy policy.
  • To unlock and restore premium, the app may send purchase-related data needed for verification, such as purchase tokens, product identifiers, and an installation-scoped opaque identifier.
  • That verification data is used only to confirm entitlement, prevent abuse, and support restore/refund/revocation handling.
  • We do not receive your full payment card details.

Exact product offers may change over time and are shown in the Play Store and in the app paywall.

Exports and metadata

When you export an image, PaintLens strips GPS location metadata by default so shared files are less likely to reveal where a photo was taken. Other technical image data may still be present depending on format and device behaviour.

Children

PaintLens is not directed at children under 13 (or the equivalent minimum age in your country). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Data retention

On-device photos, edits, and preferences remain under your control on your device until you delete them or uninstall the app.

Purchase verification records, if any, are kept only as long as needed for entitlement, accounting, fraud prevention, and legal obligations, then deleted or anonymised.

Your choices

  • You can stop on-device processing by not importing photos or by uninstalling the app.
  • You can manage or cancel Play subscriptions in your Google Play account settings.
  • You can request deletion of purchase-related records we hold (where applicable) by contacting us using the details below.

Third parties

Depending on how you use the app and store:

  • Google Play — distribution, updates, and in-app billing
  • Your device’s share targets — if you choose to share an export with another app

Those services have their own privacy policies.

Changes

We may update this policy when the app or our practices change. The “Last updated” date at the top will change when we do. Continued use of the app after an update means you accept the revised policy.
